South Fork American River
Inside ARC... : ARC Lands
Along the lower South Fork, the Conservancy worked
diligently to acquire the 1,414 Cronan Ranch. On May
17, 2005, it was turned over to the Bureau of Land
Management and officially became the Cronan Ranch
Regional Trails and Park.

The Cronan Ranch Dedication May 18, 2005

Through the hard work of staff, volunteers and contractors, the Conservancy installed a new gate, fencing, parking lot and visitors' kiosk at the trailhead off Highway 49 and Pedro Hill Road, just south of Pilot Hill.  The public is invited to enjoy the park and its 12 miles of scenic trail for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and other non-motorized recreation from dusk to dawn.

The BLM and the Conservancy have completed work on the construction of another three miles of trail linking the BLM property at Greenwood Creek with the Cronan Ranch. Parking lot construction is now underway at this trailhead.

Please contact Elena at (530) 621-1224 or elena@arconservancy.org if you would like to participate in trail building and trail maintenance along the South Fork American River.

We continue to seek donor funding to assist with additional land acquisitions and trail construction between the Cronan Ranch and the Salmon Falls area of Folsom Lake.

The trail corridor along the lower South Fork is part of a larger concept for a Sutter's Fort to Sutter's Mill trail that the Conservancy is promoting, which would stretch from Sacramento, all the way to Marshall Gold Discovery State Park in Coloma.

Since 1989, the Conservancy has protected 3,644 acres along the South Fork American River between Chili Bar Reservoir and Folsom Lake.
