Homeschool Thursdays- Spring 2010
Air Awareness- April 15th, 2010
9:30 am
Recommended age: 6-12
Investigate something that constantly surrounds us and that we use every day: air. Become Climate Detectives as we uncover reasons why the earth has warmed a degree in the last 100 years. We’ll conduct an experiment with our own air quality balloon and see what is happening in our air. Then we’ll probe some fresh rain water for its ingredients and see why the air’s quality matters. With Earth Day just around the corner, we’ll play a fun relay that shows small ways that kids can make a difference. All participants will also receive a fun goodie bag with items that help “spare the air.”
Aquatic Insect Extravaganza and Picnic– May 20th, 2010
Recommended age: 6-12
9:30 am - 12:30 (includes picnic time)
Join us as we celebrate our final homeschool Thursday this school year by delving into the wondrous world of underwater insects. You are guaranteed to be amazed! After a half-hour overview in the Nature Center, including a fun video clip of underwater insects, we will head out to Magnolia Ranch and Hastings Creek. We will search for and examine aquatic insects and crawdads in the creek, observing them under the microscope. We will end near a wildflower lunch spot where families are encouraged to stay and picnic together and enjoy the exhilarating spring outdoors.
