New Trail Blazed on the American River
Trail Campaign Launched to Construct Folsom Lake to Hwy 49 Trail

It took all of 20 years, but the last of the sixteen river front parcels has been acquired along the South Fork American River to accommodate a new 20 mile trail system from the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area to Highway 49, just north of Coloma. This is a great 20th year anniversary present to the thousands of people, organizations and public agencies that have supported this project.

“We initially purchased this property to build our dream home overlooking the South Fork American River and Folsom Lake”, stated Judy and Larry Klein, the property sellers. “But the more we thought about the uniqueness of its location, the more we recognized the greater benefit of protecting the natural habitat for future generations to enjoy. Purchase Protects Two Miles of the American River Canyon:
Project Immediately Downstream of the Auburn Dam Site

The American River Conservancy recently announced the completed purchase of a conservation easement protecting two miles of river canyon and 558 acres of oak and conifer forest on the North Fork of the American River. Protected lands are a portion of the historic Garland Ranch in El Dorado County. These ranch lands are immediately east of Folsom Lake and immediately south and across the canyon from the City of Auburn.
