Land stewardship is the recognition of our collective
responsibility to retain, manage and enhance the quality
and abundance of our land, air, water and biodiversity.
In the words of Aldo Leopold, taking care of the land also
means “preserving the land’s capacity for self-renewal.”
BLUEBIRD MONITORING
As a participatory science program, community members monitor nest boxes on a weekly basis and record their findings. By increasing volunteer participation this program aims to gather data on nesting activity across El Dorado County.
Phenology is the study of seasonal life cycle events in plants and animals. The primary focus has been to recruit, train, and encourage California residents to record and interpret the phenological status of wild plants.
The Land Stewards Program is a group of dedicated volunteers who assist American River Conservancy with property management needs. Volunteers assist with property surveillance, monitoring, and land management.
WATER QUALITY MONITORING
The program records field measurements, documents habitat conditions and observes species throughout the Cosumnes River Watershed. These measurements include water temperature, conductivity, ph and dissolved oxygen.

TRAIL WORKDAYS
Volunteers work together to build and maintain multi-use trails on ARC owned properties. Trail workdays will be centered around brushing of trail corridors, development of new trail routes and general trail maintenance.
Local waterways are well used and many visitors leave trash behind. ARC encourages volunteers to pick a date that works best for their organization, friends or community members then work together to enhance the watershed.
STEWARDSHIP WORKDAYS
Volunteer workdays focus on a range of land stewardship tasks, from large group projects on remote ARC properties or trails to small site improvement projects on American River Conservancy properties such as Wakamatsu Farm. Descriptions of available activities can be found on our sign up page.
